On the July 4 world famous Irish tenor, Ronan Tynan, belted out “God Bless America” at Fenway Park during the seventh-inning stretch of the Red Sox loss to Baltimore Orioles.
Tynan has made regular appearances at Yankee stadium until last October when he allegedly made anti-Semitic comments against a real-estate agents and a buyer who were looking at his apartment in Manhattan.
According to a Red Sox spokesperson Tynan approached them about singing at Fenway and the organizer felt that July 4 would be perfect day for him to sing.
Susan Goodenow, Red Sox senior vice president said “We were familiar with the circumstance in New York, and of course, took it seriously…We talked to Ronan and had conversations with, among others, leaders here in Boston, including those in the Jewish community. We were satisfied after our conversations and felt very comfortable moving forward with the July 4 invitation.”
Goodenow commented that Tynan is “an incredibly talented and accomplished tenor” and that he was well received by the Fenway crowd.
In the past Tynan has performed at President Ronald Reagan’s funeral in 2004 and also at President George H.W. Bush’s 80th birthday party.
