During a visit to New Zealand this past week, U.S. Sectary of State Hillary Clinton said she had no plans to be the first female president of the U.S.
When asked by reporters if she planned on seeking another election run for the highest office in the U.S., she said no.
Clinton is on a seven-nation tour of Asia-Pacific for two weeks.
Clinton told television reporters that she was very happy in her current role.
However, she did say that the U.S. “should be” ready to have a woman as commander-in-chief.
During a later interview, she again ruled out a possible run when the question arose.
"Will you rule out a White House run in 2016 or before," and she replied "Oh yes, yes."
When asked about the significant gain the republicans made in the recent elections, she said it was upsetting but not surprising.
“Yeah, it’s big, but it’s not out of the pattern of historical political elections,” she said.
“That doesn’t make it any easier, and it is deeply saddening to see good people lose their congressional seats, but it is part of a historical pattern,” she said.
“And certainly I know that (the president) is going to work hard the next two years to build a strong relationship with the Congress, with the new leaders to get things done for our country.”
