Life Zone, the Irish anti-abortion group, has come out in favor of comments by Missouri senate candidate Todd Akin on rape.

Speaking to the local FOX affiliate, Aikin said, "If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down," the senate candidate said Sunday during an interview with the John Moynes show.

The newly-nominated GOP Senate nominee in Missouri made the comments when he was asked why he opposes abortion even when the pregnancy is the result of rape.

Now it has been revealed that a major Irish pro life organization supports his view.
Life Zone, which credits themselves as Ireland's number one source for prolife information states on their website:

“Many women are infertile at the time they are raped - they may be in the infertile phase of their monthly cycle, too old or too young to conceive

“Trauma from the rape may bring into play some natural defence mechanisms that reduce the likelihood of pregnancy, such as hormonal change and spasms of the fallopian tubes which inhibit ovulation or fertilisation

“Rape does not always involve a complete act of sexual intercourse - ejaculation may not occur - or the rapist may be infertile

“The chance of conception resulting from a single act of unprotected intercourse even between consenting fertile individuals has been estimated at only 2 to 4%”

But according to a study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (AJOG), the national US rape-related pregnancy rate is 5.0 percent per rape among victims of reproductive age.

Tens of thousands of young Irish women every year go abroad, mostly to Britain, for abortions.
