Kind-hearted Sarah Jessica Parker, star of “Sex and the City” has stepped in to help the distraught family of Yonkers girl Kalie Gill, an Irish native, who was tragically killed in a car accident outside a church carnival on October 11.
She has donated her personally signed designer bags and seven pairs of shoes for the event valued in the tens of thousands by fans of the Carrie Bradshaw character on the “Sex and the City” show.
Kalie’s sister Lindsey was badly injured in the same crash when a local schoolteacher lost control and slammed into the girls. The family has one older daughter.
Kalie’s family is from Leitrim and had just emigrated back to the U.S. after spending eight years at home.
Sarah Jessica Parker, who has a home in Kilcar, Co Donegal with her husband, actor Matthew Broderick, heard about the plight of the Gill family after their relative Oliver Charles, owner of The Butcher’s Fancy Irish store in Yonkers went on a New York news radio station 880 AM and discussed the case.
Soon after Sarah Jessica Parker reached out to help through a mutual acquaintance.
Charles, who is chairperson of the Benefit Concert and fundraiser to be held on Friday, December 13 and Sunday, December 15, said Sarah Jessica has visited his shop on a number of occasions and purchased Irish goods there.
“I’m not a bit surprised she is helping out,” said Charles.
“She’s a really good person who comes in and chats away like anyone else, totally down to earth.
“It really helps with this fundraiser as the Gill family have been devastated and the community needs to show their support.”
In addition to the Sarah Jessica Parker gift, two Super Bowl tickets and All-Ireland football tickets have also been pledged.
“People are really rallying around,” said Oliver Charles, “It’s great to see.”
Lindsey has made remarkable progress and is currently recovering at a rehabilitation center.
Sixth grade teacher Roseanne Piccirilli plowed her car into the girls as they left a fundraiser event at Coyne Park, in Yonkers.
The Gills, who only recently re-emigrated to America from Ireland, hold no grudge towards 55-year-old Piccirilli.
Speaking after the accident at a waiting room at the Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, mom Karen said “She’s a good woman, a good person and she didn’t mean to do this. I believe it was a freak accident. I just wish her well.”
Dad Damien added “We hold no grievance against the driver, and Kalie wouldn’t want that either. We’re sure she’s hurting. It’s just unfortunate that they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
