The big day has come and gone leaving lots of storylines as usual in its wake.
Here’s our annual list of the winners and losers.
Winner: Out@NBC. First ever gay group to march in the New York parade did so with dignity and class and proved the issue could be resolved with goodwill on both sides
Loser: Hardline elements in the parade who predicted Armageddon if gays marched. The sun rose as usual on March 18.
Winner: Hillary Clinton whose appearance at our sister publication’s Hall of Fame event where she delivered a stemwinder on Northern Ireland was a good news bonanza for the Democratic front runner.
Loser: Mayor Bill de Blasio will be late for his own wake! Showing up late for mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral was beyond incompetent, it was downright insulting to the Irish community.
Winner: Kevin Westley the AOH member won massive publicity from the US media when he bought and later returned hundreds of drunken Paddy Irish T shirts from Wal Mart. Score one for the little guy!
Loser: Walmart, Spencers. The massive stores were finally forced to take notice of the complaints of the Irish community.
Winner: Boston mayor Marty Walsh whose quick thinking on changing parade route saved the parade after the winter from hell and whose negotiating skills led to the first gay group marching.
Loser: John ”Wacko” Hurley who had held back progress on the gay issue in the Boston parade was finally outmaneuvered much to his chagrin.
Winner: Enda Kenny who smacked down the Australian Prime Minister for his downright condescending remarks on Irish drinking on St Patrick's Day.
Loser: You guessed it, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott for his heavy-handed St Patrick’s video that made him look like an amateur leprechaun.
