Donald Trump arrived in Shannon, Ireland on Monday (May 12) for a three-day stay and the reception at the airport was positively weird.
Trump alighted from his 757 private jet to be met by three musicians in traditional Irish garb playing what sounded like a funeral dirge in his honor.
The puzzled Trump can be seen stopping and staring at the sight as the three musicians, including a harpist, trembled in the early morning cold.
Also there paying homage to The Donald was Ireland’s Minister for Finance Michael Noonan, the second most powerful man in the government.
The reason for all the fuss is that Trump has bought a well known golf resort in the Shannon region and, after he landed, the 67-year-old tycoon was promising hundreds of jobs.
Trump snapped up the Doonbeg Luxury resort for $20 million.
He announced a new ballroom will be built at the resort.
“A lot of people work in ballrooms – they generate a lot of taxes and they generate a lot of jobs. One of the main reasons I’m sitting here is the ballroom..I believe people from all over the world will be using this ballroom.”
He also promised to be a friend of the ‘Vertigo angustior’ – the microscopic snail that has was holding up environmental decisions.
Trump said he had plans to at least double or triple” his investment eventually.
