The people of Armagh decided to mark the anniversary of a local shopping mall with a fun music video featuring their mayor that has since gone viral.
In the video, which celebrates the 40th birthday of the Rushmere Shopping Centre in Craigavon, the Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, Garath Keating dances to a few of the greatest hits of the last forty years.
Keating, 34, arrives at the mall wearing a livery collar — one of those heavy chains worn as an insignia of office — and can be seen enjoying all the shopping center has to offer. He also shows off some serious dance moves.
He and his fellow dancers — who come from different local dance troupes— celebrate the last four decades by getting down to iconic tunes like Bee Gees’ Staying Alive, Michael Jackson’s Beat it, Hanson’s MMMbop, OutKast’s Hey Ya! and Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk ft. Bruno Mars.
"It was an opportunity to put my own personal stamp on things and say thanks to Rushmere as it marks this major milestone," said Keating.
"It was great craic but I don't plan to make a habit of it."
Rushmere Shopping Centre manager Martin Walsh said: "This video really captures the fun and sense of community which exists at Rushmere and the excitement around the anniversary celebrations.
"We wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support of the lord mayor who took everyone by surprise with his impressive dance moves, as well as the talented local dancers and our fantastic retailers and customer service staff who all helped make the video so much fun."
So far the video has had over 60,000 views.
