An Irishman living in Australia went viral after he accidentally requested his pizza order be delivered to a Dublin address.
Oisin Lenehan, 29, moved to Australia from Belfast six years ago. He was recently visiting his friends Kyle, 33, and Sarah, 29, in Melbourne when he ordered takeaway on Uber Eats. However, his order was mistakenly sent to an address some 9,600 miles away!
Lenehan placed his $65 food order, which included BBQ chicken pizzas, garlic bread and chips, from what he thought “was a local place," reports The New York Post.
He only realized the mixup when he received a notification that the order was en route to a location in Ireland - a Dublin address that had been saved in the app from a previous night out in the city centre.
“The food was being sent to a place in Dublin where I’d been for a night out,” Lenehan told Jam Press. “My heart just dropped because we were hungry and we were going to have to go through the whole process again of deciding where to order and what we wanted.”
His friend Sarah recorded the mortified expat explaining the situation to an Uber Eats representative on the phone and begging the takeaway to refund his order.
”I’m in a different part of the country, so I need to cancel the order. I’ve mistakenly left my own home address in the system,” Lenehan can be seen saying in the video.
“Yes please, absolutely, do you need my name to cancel it?
“For what reason would I like to cancel? Well, because I’m a silly billy,” he added.
His friends found the interaction hilarious.
“He was so respectful on the phone,” recounted his friend Kyle. “We were laughing our heads off.
After sharing the video on TikTok with the caption “accidentally ordering pizza to Ireland instead of Melbourne, Australia," the clip quickly went viral, racking up more than 500,000 views.
Thankfully, Lenehan got a full refund and the friends were able to order a second takeaway - this time delivered to the correct postcode, reports the Irish Independent.
“I’ve just been laughing at how much interest people have taken in my misfortune, but I’m happy that it made people laugh,” Oisin told People Magazine.
“There was one comment that said, ‘You can tell by how he speaks to people that he was raised well’. So, shoutout to my parents for that one.”
