Irish TV on Friday night is going to be huge! Irish America's favorite Liam Neeson and former press secretary to Trump, Sean Spicer, will be snuggling up on together on the couch of the Late Late Show, Ireland’s flagship chat show.

As pairings go the two are chalk and cheese, Martin McGuinness and Ian Paisley, Irish cops and Italian mobsters.

Spicer is a diminutive Irish American from Rhode Island who gained worldwide fame (or infamy) when he described the crowd at the 2017 inauguration as the “biggest ever”. Experts in estimating crowd sizes disagreed.

In his six months working in the West Wing he dramatically sparred with the White House press corp and his briefings pricked public conscious in a way no other press secretary has managed to do.

Meanwhile, Neeson is an Antrim man, bleeding heart liberal and a movie hunk who played Michael Collins in the film of the same name. At the Toronto International Film Festival he was blunt in his appraisal of Trump’s presidency so far.

“I think we're living in very scary times and we all have to be responsible,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

“And the great thing that has happened and is continuing to happen - as was happening at the time of Watergate - people are getting out and protesting. That hasn't happened in America for many many years.”

RTÉ have confirmed they expect Spicer to tell viewers what he really thought of Melissa McCarthy’s portrayals of him on Saturday Night Live, how much of Michael Wolff’s book “Fire and Fury” is to be believed and whether he thinks Trump will be re-elected in 2020.

“I am really looking forward to getting his first-hand account of what it was like to be there in that White House with the world’s media watching and his insights into what’s really going on in Trumpland,” presenter Ryan Tubridy said.

The Late Late Show starts at 9.35pm every Friday on RTÉ 1. Viewers from outside of Ireland can watch the show on catchup on RTÉ Player.
