Coláiste Lurgan is at it again with “Ríoga,” a hauntingly beautiful cover of “Royals” by Lorde, reinterpreted into Irish.
You may have been one of the 5 million viewers of their video covering Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” (Lig Mé Saor), complete with energetic dancing and flying glow paint. “Ríoga” has a more relaxed feel to it – perfect harmonies and snapping fingers are all the kids are working with in this a cappella piece.
The talented students of this Gaeltacht (Irish speaking) college have reinterpreted a huge selection of popular songs into Ireland’s native tongue, from Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” to Coldplay’s most recent single “Sky Full of Stars.”
With nearly 10,000 views in just a half of a day, “Ríoga” is a massive hit. All of Coláiste Lurgan’s videos are quite fun and very well produced—watch them in their element here and prepare to be unwound.
