IrishCentral are proud to be premiering RUNA’s new music video “The Ruthless Wife.” The Philadelphia band is quickly gaining recognition as one of Irish music’s new “super-groups.”

This is the innovative and multi-award winning Celtic-roots band’s second official music video. The video for “The Ruthless Wife” features bluegrass legend Ron Block, on the banjo. Long-time member of Alison Krauss & Union Station, Block has played with musical greats ranging from Jerry Douglas and Willie Nelson to Emmylou Harris and Kate Rusby, winning multiple Grammy, CMA, and International Bluegrass awards.

The band uses a fusion of musical influences and geographic upbringings. Members include bandleader, vocalist, and step dancer, Shannon Lambert-Ryan of Philadelphia; Dublin-born guitarist, Fionán de Barra; Cheryl Prashker, originally from Montreal, Canada, on percussion; Dave Curley of Galway on mandolin, vocals, bodhrán, and step dancing; and Maggie Estes of Kentucky on the fiddle.

Together, members of RUNA have played with Solas, Riverdance, Slide, Clannad, Keith & Kristyn Getty, Ricky Skaggs, Moya Brennan, Eileen Ivers, Hazel O’Connor, Fiddlers’ Bid, Barcó, Téada, Jeff Taylor, Buddy Greene, and Jonathan Edwards.

RUNA’s new release was written by band members Fionán de Barra and Shannon Lambert-Ryan and was inspired by the newsworthy events surrounding Lambert-Ryan’s great-great-grandfather’s death in Philadelphia in July 1922. “The Ruthless Wife” was originally recorded for RUNA’s fourth studio album, “Current Affairs.”

The release of “The Ruthless Wife” music video marks the beginning of RUNA’s launch campaign for their new live album, coming in July 2016, and the band’s summer touring season.

Notable tour stops include the New Bedford Folk Festival, ABQ BioPark, the Musical Instrument Museum, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Great American Irish Festival, Milwaukee Irish Fest, Kansas City Irish Festival, and many more.

The new video, “The Ruthless Wife,” was filmed by up and coming photographer/filmmaker, Isaac White, and shot at notable historic locations in Nashville and Philadelphia, including Marathon Village and Houston Station.

RUNA is a recent Top Group and Top Traditional Group winner at the Irish Music Awards, in 2013, and a repeat winner for Best World/Traditional Song at the Independent Music Awards, in both 2013 and 2015.

Since 2008, RUNA has toured internationally, enchanting live audiences with its haunting traditional melodies, intoxicating rhythms, and sheer musical sophistication. The band’s sound, like its name, is a “mystical” blend of traditional Celtic flair and contemporary Americana roots music, dubbed “timeless and flawless” by PA Music Scene and “sensational” by The Celtic Crier.
