Aisling Bea's "This Way Up" is Hulu's next biggest hit and a sure-fire way to spend this weekend.
The worst thing about seasons of "Derry Girls" is just that they are just way too short but luckily we already have a great new Irish show to fill the void. Aisling Bea's "This Way Up" was released to Hulu in the US on August 21 and if you've never heard of her before, we can promise she'll soon be a household favorite.
Bea hails from County Kildare but the award-winning stand-up comic, actress and writer honed her comedic skills in London. She also comes from amazing family history as her grandfather was Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, a Gaelic poet and novelist from West Cork who fought in the War of Independence.
This is the first TV show that Bea has written, working with "Catastrophe" star and fellow Irish woman Sharon Horgan, who was the producer. Both women also star in the leading roles of "The Way Up," playing Áine (Bea) and her sister Shona (Horgan).

We first meet Áine on her way out of a rehab facility being picked up by Shona after what's gently referred to as a "nervous breakdown" several months beforehand. Little more is known of what happened to her but we follow as she and her sister return to their lives in London.
Already receiving a release in Ireland and the UK on Channel 4 on August 8, it has been described as "your next comedy binge" by NPR and a "bountiful binge-watch" by The Atlantic.
And if that wasn't enough to convince you, check out the incredible reviews it's received at home:
Absolutely love #ThisWayUp - one of the best accounts I’ve ever seen of what anxiety and depression really feel like (to me anyway). @WeeMissBea has found of way of illuminating every day survival rather than the constant crisis most drama would rely on. It’s beautiful.

Today my friend @WeeMissBea’s glorious #ThisWayUp premieres on @hulu. It is so incredibly funny & beautiful. A promising up & comer named @SharonHorgan plays her sister too. I can’t recommend it enough. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/iBpPqdbkLr

#ThisWayUp is absolutely fucking fantastic and you need to watch it right now. It’s painfully real and raw and funny and it’s exactly the show I would love to make. I’m pretty pissed off that @WeeMissBea & @SharonHorgan made it first and better actually ☺️pic.twitter.com/giipZfyPmO
