Irish actor joins "fantastic" cast to film new movie in Dublin this summer

Irish actor Andrew Scott is joining Bobby Cannavale, Ethan Hawke, and Margaret Qualley in the cast for director Richard Linklater’s newest project “Blue Moon.”

Scott will be on his home turf when filming commences in Dublin this summer.

According to Deadline, the new movie, written by Robert Kaplow, “profiles the final days of Lorenz Hart, part of the hit songwriting team Rodgers & Hart. 

“The film is set primarily in Sardi’s Restaurant on March 31, 1943, the opening night of Oklahoma!, which marked Rodgers’s first collaboration with Oscar Hammerstein II as Hart’s replacement.”

While Hawke is set to star in the new film, it's unclear just yet who is playing what role.

Deadline reports that the worldwide rights for "Blue Moon" have been acquired by Sony Pictures Classics (which earlier this year acquired rights to "Kneecap") and that Linklater will produce alongside Mike Blizzard, as well as his manager John Sloss.

A spokesperson for Sony Pictures Classics said: “Almost a year ago, Rick, Ethan, and John reached out to us with Robert Kaplow’s amazing script 'Blue Moon.'

"Helping them over the following months to bring it together has been incredibly exciting and now, on the verge of production, with this fantastic cast and crew in place and Rick at the helm, we are thrilled to finally announce it and bring the film to audiences everywhere in the world.”

Linklater told Deadline: “Robert, Ethan, and I have been developing this story for over a decade and are excited and grateful that the time has come to bring this to life."

"Blue Moon" will be a Detour/Renovo production in association with Wild Atlantic Pictures, Under The Influence, and Cinetic Media.

Based in Dublin, Wild Atlantic Pictures is the film and television company behind films including "Black 47," "Cocaine Bear," and "The Pope's Exorcist."

Scott's casting in "Blue Moon" is just the latest in the Irish actor's impressive ascent to fame. 

In May, it was revealed that Scott had been added to the lineup for "Wake Up Dead Man," the latest in the wildly popular "Knives Out" film series. 

This came not long after the limited series "Ripley," in which Scott stars as Tom Ripley, cracked the top 10 on Netflix.

Earlier this year, Scott landed a Golden Globe nomination for his role opposite Paul Mescal in "All of Us Strangers." It was his second Golden Globe nomination following the nod for his turn as the 'Hot Priest' in the smash hit series "Fleabag."

Also this year, Scott became the first person to win the Critics’ Circle Best Actor prize in both theatre ("Vanya") and film ("All of Us Strangers") in the same year.

Scott has won two IFTAs ("Black Mirror" and "Sherlock") and has been nominated for several others, and was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy for his spot on "Black Mirror."
