Barry Keoghan has taken to X to issue a statement after he disabled his Instagram account on Saturday.

Barry’s initial decision to disable his Instagram had been linked to a reported split between himself and his girlfriend Sabrina Carpenter.

However, taking to X on Saturday evening, Barry said that he had disabled his social media due to the ‘inhumane’ levels of abuse he was receiving.

STATEMENT

‘I can only sit and take so much,’ the actor began. ‘My name has been dragged across the internet in ways I usually don’t respond to.

‘I have to respond now because it’s gettin to a place where there are too many lines being crossed. I deactivated my account because I can no longer let this stuff distract from my family and my work. The messages I have received no person should ever have to read them. Absolute lies, hatred, disgusting commentary about my appearance, character, how I am as a parent and every other inhumane thing you can imagine.

‘Dragging my character and everything I worked extremely hard for and stand for.’

Please be respectful

‘Talking about how I was a heroine baby and how I grew up and dragging my dear mother into it also. Knocking on my grannies door.

‘Sitting outside my baby boys house intimidating them. That’s crossing a line.

‘Each and every day I work harder to push myself on every level to be the healthiest and strongest person for that boy. I want to provide opportunities for him to learn, fail and grow. I want him to be able to look up to his daddy, to have full trust in me and know I will have his back no matter what.

‘I need you to remember he has to read ALL of this about his father when he is older.

‘Please be respectful to all.

‘Thank u x’

‘MY SON ISN’T A TALKING POINT’

Barry’s statement comes after the award-winning actor was recently forced to defend his parenting on the Louis Theroux podcast, where he emphasised that he’s ‘not an absent father’.

Clips of Barry’s interview with documentarian Louis quickly went viral, with Barry receiving some horrid comments from online trolls about his parenting despite his comments.

Responding to the hate, Barry told Hunger magazine: ‘By God, didn’t the feckin’ internet do their work! “Deadbeat father”, blah, blah, blah!

‘It’s just because I don’t post my child 24/7 or give the internet what they want. My son isn’t a talking point.

‘It’s not my place to be sticking up pictures of his face all over the internet — not in this day and age with the internet and how sick it can be.’

He added: ‘People are so feckin’ quick to judge. It can really affect you, but I’m a strong person. I do some therapy. I’m a work in progress.

‘I’m constantly evolving as an actor, as a father, as a human. I’m always trying to grow.’
