A TV series is said to be in the works based on the popular “Boondock Saints” movies.  Director and writer Troy Duffy has revealed that interest has been shown in taking what would be “Part 3” of the film and turning it into a weekly TV show instead.

The writer-director confirmed to We got this covered, that he is in talks with executives about his project  insinuated that the two leading roles will be given to the former stars, Irish actors Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery.

“I actually called both Sean and Norman and they both said 'Hell yeah, we'll drop everything,'” Duffy told We Got This Covered.

The film follows two Irish brothers as they accidentally kill some mafia gangsters. They turn themselves in and are released as heroes. It is then that they see it as a calling by God and start knocking off mafia gang members one by one.

The type of violence and language displayed in the “Boondock Saints” films may only be suitable for a cable network in the likes of HBO or AMC, so that fans are still satisfied and receive what they expect from the series.

Although the film grossed a little over $30,000 in the box office and was not received well by critics when it was first released in 2000, the Troy Duffy films have garnered a strong following in recent years.  “The Boondock Saints” has since become what some describe as a “cult classic” hit, enough to have a sequel in 2009, a comic book in 2010, and a documentary about Duffy in 2003.

The TV series surely has an advantage with its already established fan-base and it comes as no surprise that the project is said to be already moving forward.
