OSCAR nominated Irish director/screenwriter Jim Sheridan has assembled quite an A-list cast for his next project, a remake of the 2004 Danish language film Brothers. Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman have been cast as the three leads, which guarantees that this film is going to get a ton of attention when it's released sometime in 2009. Production is set to begin next month, according to the IMDB.com website.

The film sees Maguire cast as a soldier sent to fight in Afghanistan. He leaves behind a wife (Portman) and child, who are cared for by his underachieving brother, played by Gyllenhaal, while he is away and presumed missing after a year. Definitely the makings of a good love triangle, right!

The original film is being reworked by a screenwriter, and no doubt Sheridan is lending a helping hand in that respect.

Gyllenhaal is already prepping for his role. The beard he's been sporting at the various premieres for his latest film Rendition?

"I grew it for Brothers, a Jim Sheridan film," he told the Telegraph in London.
