Netflix has shared a picture of Irish Oscar winner Cillian Murphy back in character as Tommy Shelby as the new "Peaky Blinders" film officially launches production.
Netflix says its new “Peaky Blinders” film is “the epic continuation of the multi-award-winning gangster saga, set in the lawless streets of Birmingham in the 1900s.”
In the highly anticipated film, Cork native Murphy reprises his role as the iconic Tommy Shelby.
The new film was written by "Peaky Blinders" creator Steven Knight, who is also producing the movie alongside Patrick Holland, Cillian Murphy, and Guy Healey.

Speaking about the new film, Knight recently told Netflix: “I’m thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the 'Peaky Blinders' story, set during World War II.
“The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.”

Earlier, upon the confirmation that the "Peaky Blinders" film was going ahead, Murphy said: "It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me.
“It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of 'Peaky Blinders.'
"This is one for the fans.”

Harper, who directed episodes of the show’s first season in 2013, will direct the new film from a script by Knight.
“When I first directed 'Peaky Blinders' over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive,” Harper said.
“'Peaky' has always been a story about family — and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”
Harper added: “There’s a great feeling of anticipation and excitement amongst our outstanding cast and crew.
“We’re grateful to the fans for getting us to this point and believe this next chapter is going to deliver something extraordinary."
Knight went on to tease: “I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen.
“It will be an explosive chapter in the 'Peaky Blinders' story.
"No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”
The first look at Murphy's reprisal comes about a month after it was announced that fellow Irish actor Barry Keoghan had been added to the "Peaky Blinders" movie cast.
Keoghan told Entertainment Weekly that he "can't wait" for filming.
"[I'm a] massive, massive fan of the show, and Cillian [Murphy]'s a good friend and I f---ing admire him as an actor as well," the Dublin native who was nominated for an Oscar in 2023 said.
"So just looking to get into that and getting my process now — I have a process I do, and I've not done it for a long while, so I'm excited and nervous at the same time."
Rebecca Ferguson ("Dune," "Mission Impossible") and Tim Roth ("Pulp Fiction," "The Hateful Eight") are also confirmed to be in the new "Peaky Blinders" movie.
