The election in Ireland is in full swing, and a host of young Irish celebs have been recruited to join an effort to get the youth of the country to the polls on May 24.

It's Rock the Vote Irish style, and leading the charge is none other than Colin Farrell, a Dub who spends most of his time nurturing his career (and toddler son) in the U.S. Farrell makes it a point of always talking up his Irish roots, and now he's speaking to young Irish in an effort to get them involved in politics.

"Voting is extremely important, I'm happy to do anything I can to help," says Colin in a Rock the Vote Irish commercial. "The country's doing so well, eighth richest, strongest economy in Europe. We're doing great, aren't we?

"But go into any hospital in Dublin and you'll see (what it's really like). Get out there, have your say."

The Irish Rock the Vote campaign is modeled on the MTV original version that debuted here many years ago remember when Bill Clinton said he wore boxers as opposed to briefs? It's that kind of banter that's meant to draw young voters into the process, hopefully stoking their political instincts at the same time.

"We've asked a number of DJs and TV personalities involved in the campaign to play the clips, and we're hoping for a good response," Rock the Vote executive director Patrick Cosgrave said.

Other Irish hot shots who have signed up for the campaign include Cork's Cillian Murphy, a resident of London, and boxer Bernard Dunne, who's done quite well for himself since relocating from here to there a few years ago.
