It seems to be the unanswerable question for Damian McGinty’s fans - will Rory Flanagan be back for more ‘Glee’ next season or not? Graduation is coming quickly for the McKinley High School kids and several of both the regular and guest characters’ futures are still pending.
Derry native and ‘The Glee Project’ co-champion chatted exclusively with WetPaint about what his future on ‘Glee’ could hold. McGinty, however, provided only some tantalizing teasers about what’s coming up on the remaining episodes of ‘Glee’s third season.
“The thing with ‘Glee’ this year is that there's a lot of guest stars, more than there has been any other year,” said McGinty to WetPaint. “It's myself, Vanessa Lengies (Sugar Motta), Grant Gustin [Sebastian], Chord Overstreet [Sam] and Max Adler (Dave Karofsky). So I'm definitely there until the end of the season, but as for next year, I have no idea. None of us know.”
Good news that McGinty is now confirmed for the remainder of season three; but still, what could his future be on ‘Glee’?
In episode 13 that aired in February, McGinty’s character Rory Flanagan, who is an Irish foreign exchange student, revealed that he may be shipped home to Ireland due to visa issues. McGinty was also given a moment in the spotlight when he performed a rendition of Michael Buble’s ‘Home.’
“It may not be,” said McGinty about whether or not Rory Flanagan will be on the next flight home. “I've had a chat with the writers, but I'll let the audience figure that one out. It may get figured out. We'll have to wait and see.”
Sounds like McGinty has been having several chats with the ‘Glee’ writers. He also disclosed how he presented the idea of his character Rory marrying Sugar (Vanessa Lengies) in order to stay in the country, a rather relevant topic for the times. However, writers shot that idea down citing, understandably, that 15 years old (the age Damian portrays on the show) is too young to be wed.
As co-champion of ‘The Glee Project,’ McGinty was contracted for seven episodes on the hit FOX show. He has now long outlived those guaranteed seven shows, though no definitive plan has been announced for his character just yet.
McGinty is hugely supportive of other ‘The Glee Project’ contestant who has recently been slotted as a guest on the show.
“You know what? It's just brilliant,” he says of Alex Newell appearing in the show. “That's all I'm going to say. It's just brilliant.”
Next week show pays tribute to Whitney Houston in an episode entitled ‘Dance with Somebody.’ Will we have any more answers about McGinty next week? Tune in to FOX to find out!
