Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson has been cast in the potential new series in “The Office” universe, according to Deadline.
Gleeson, the son of veteran Irish actor Brendan Gleeson, has been cast alongside Sabrina Impacciatore in the new series.
Gleeson and Impacciatore are the first two confirmed roles of a potential ensemble cast, The Hollywood Reporter notes.
Deadline reported that details regarding Gleeson and Impacciatore's roles are "under wraps" and that Universal Television declined to comment on the potential new "The Office" series, other than to confirm that the project remains in development.
Earlier this year, Deadline reported that Greg Daniels, who adapted BBC's "The Office" for American audiences, had begun to explore ideas for a follow-up series to the American smash-hit sitcom that ran for eight years and won five Emmys.
The potential new project, however, is not a reboot, according to Deadline. Instead, "it is said to be set in a new office with new characters but live within the same world as the Steve Carell-led mockumentary series which follows employees at the Scranton, Pennsylvania, branch of the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company.
"Daniels has indicated that a new 'Office' iteration could follow a crew doing a documentary about a different subject."
Deadline noted that Gleeson has worked closely with stars of the American version of "The Office" in recent years - he starred opposite Steve Carrell in the FX series "The Patient" and he features opposite John Krasinski in Apple's upcoming "Fountain of Youth."
Meanwhile, Gleeson is currently starring in the limited series "Alice & Jack," which he also executive produced and features fellow Irish actor Aisling Bea.
Previously, the Irish actor has featured in "Brooklyn," "About Time," "Ex Machina," "Goodbye Christopher Robin," three "Star Wars" films, and two "Harry Potter" films, as well as the television shows "Frank," "Black Mirror," and "White House Plumbers."
Last year, he starred in the music video for Irish singer-songwriter Hozier's single "De Selby (Part 2)."
