Congratulations are in order for George and Amal Clooney! The Irish American actor and British Lebanese international human rights lawyer are now the proud parents of twins, Ella and Alexander.
A statement released to the media today reads: "This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives. Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine. George is sedated and should recover in a few days."
The twins are the first children for both Amal, 39, and George, 56. In the weeks leading up to the twins' birth, the couple has reportedly been staying at their country house in Sonning, England. One of their visitors there has been President Obama, who joined them for dinner on May 27.
In an interview in February with France’s Recontres de Cinema, Clooney expressed his excitement and amusement over becoming a father for the first time in his 50s.
"We are really happy and really excited. It's going to be an adventure," he said. "We've sort of embraced it all with arms wide open."
He shared that "We went out to dinner the other night, and it's a table of eight guys and all their kids are away in college, and we are sitting there and they were all being very supportive, 'Everything is going to be great, you're going to love it.' Then it got really quiet, and they all just started making baby crying and the whole table just busted up laughing."
Clooney’s Irish ancestors were small farmers from Windgap, County Kilkenny.
