Irish actor Jason O’Mara is to star as America’s first President George Washington in a major new television series.
The 41-year-old Dubliner is one of the big names signed up for the History Channel mini-series Sons of Liberty.
RTE, Ireland’s state broadcaster, reports that the series will tell the story of the American Revolution over six episodes from the Boston Tea Party to the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
O’Mara has previously starred in CSI: Miami, Terra Nova and Life on Mars.
His new role sees him cast as George Washington, the Continental Army general who went on to win a war and became the first US president.
Co-stars for O’Mara will include Breaking Bad’s Dean Norris as Benjamin Franklin, Ben Barnes as Sam Adams, Henry Thomas as John Adams and Rafe Spall as John Hancock.
The report adds that filming and production on the new mini-series has begun in Romania.
