The Golden Globe nominations 2025 are here! Colin Farrell and Andrew Scott are nominated against each other in two major categories - while other notable Irish acts missed out on nominations.
Farrell and Scott, both natives of Dublin, will face off in the Best Performance By A Male Actor In A Limited Series, Anthology Series, Or A Motion Picture Made For Television category and the Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series Or Motion Picture Made For Television category at the Golden Globes 2025.
Farrell has been nominated for his lead role in HBO Max's "The Penguin," while Scott has been nominated for his lead role in Netflix's "Ripley."
The two Irish actors are joined by Richard Gadd ("Baby Reindeer"), Kevin Kline ("Disclaimer"), Cooper Koch ("Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story"), and Ewan Mcgregor ("A Gentleman In Moscow") as nominees in the Best Performance category.
Meanwhile, Farrell's series "The Penguin" and Scott's series "Ripley" are up against "Baby Reindeer" (Netflix), "Disclaimer" (Apple TV+), "Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story" (Netflix), and "True Detective: Night Country" (HBO | Max) in the Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series Or Motion Picture Made For Television category.
Farrell already has two Golden Globe wins under his belt - one in 2023 for "The Banshees of Inisherin," and another in 2009 for "In Bruges." He was also nominated in 2017 for "The Lobster," but lost out to James Franco of "The Disaster Artist."
Meanwhile, Scott will be looking to bring home his first-ever Golden Globe; he was nominated in 2024 for the film "All Of Us Strangers" and in 2020 for the series "Fleabag."
There wasn't much love for other Irish talent elsewhere in the Golden Globe nominations 2025.
Co Kildare native Paul Mescal - fresh off of "SNL" hosting duties - missed out on an acting nomination for his latest release "Gladiator II," though the film did land a nomination in the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category.
Mescal's "Gladiator II" co-star Denzel Washington was nominated in the Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture category.
Also nominated in the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category is "Twisters," which features Irish actor Daryl McCormack.
Saoirse Ronan was locked out of the Golden Globe nominations 2025, failing to secure acting nods for "The Outrun" and "Blitz." Neither film received any nominations.
Also missing out is "Kneecap," the semi-autobiographical film about the Belfast-based Irish language hip-hop trio that has received huge critical success. Variety had predicted the film would land a nomination in the Non-English Language Film category and had it as an outlier in the Best Original Song category.
The Golden Globes 2025 Awards Ceremony will air live on CBS in the US and stream on Paramount+ on Sunday, January 5, 2025
