Could immigration reform slip onto the long finger when Barack Obama is inaugurated? According to one source, the polling done with Hispanics during the campaign did not show overwhelming support for legalizing the undocumented. Rather, it showed that Hispanics wanted an immediate end to the workplace arrests of thousands of undocumented as their priority. That would be fairly simple for Obama to achieve without taking on the bigger issue. While lobbying groups have made plain they will press the new regime hard, it seems increasingly unlikely it will be an Obama priority. Fixing the economy and America's image abroad seem the top items on his immediate agenda.
