Virgin Media Ireland has done the hard work for you, analyzing the top 40 Christmas songs through Google search volume, Spotify streaming data, and artist earnings from November 2023 to October 2024 to reveal the festive hits Ireland just can't stop listening to. 

Here’s a look at Ireland’s top five Christmas songs—and why they’ve become such a big part of our celebrations: 

1. "Fairytale of New York" by The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl 

This song is a Christmas classic in Ireland, and it’s easy to see why. Its bittersweet story about love, hope, and heartbreak has been a part of Irish celebrations for years. The song has been streamed over 401 million times on Spotify, earning an impressive €1.4 million for the artists, with 12,100 monthly searches in Ireland showcasing its enduring popularity. Whether played at Christmas parties or sung along to in pubs, it’s an essential part of Irish Christmas tradition.  

2. "The Christmas Song" by Nat King Cole 

Nothing feels more Christmassy than Nat King Cole’s warm voice singing about “chestnuts roasting on an open fire.” This timeless tune brings back memories of family gatherings and peaceful nights by the fire. This song is searched 6,600 times a month in Ireland. With over 504 million Spotify streams, it has brought in €1.8 million for the late Nat King Cole’s brand. 

3. "Last Christmas" by Wham 

This one’s for the hopeless romantics. Wham’s Last Christmas perfectly captures the bittersweet feelings of holiday love, with a melody that’s impossible not to hum along to. It’s a staple of every Christmas playlist, with 3,600 searches in Ireland and an incredible 1.57 billion Spotify streams, earning a whopping €5.8 million for this icon. 

4. "Silent Night" by Michael Bublé 

When you need a moment of calm during the holiday chaos, Michael Bublé’s version of Silent Night is the perfect choice. His soothing voice makes this carol feel magical, whether you’redecorating the tree or winding down on Christmas Eve. With 2,900 monthly searches, Irish listeners clearly find comfort in Bublé’s smooth, rich vocals. The song has been streamed 119.8 million times, earning €445,000 for the Canadian singer 

5. "Jingle Bells" by Frank Sinatra 

With its jazzy arrangement and Sinatra’s signature charisma, it’s a song that never goes out of style. In Ireland, it’s searched 2,900 times a month, showing its enduring popularity. Its 267 million Spotify streams have earned an impressive €993,000 for his brand, proving that this lively classic still gets everyone in the holiday spirit, whether you’re wrapping presents or baking Christmas treats.
