This week we have learned that Irish director Brian Kirk is in talks to direct the sequel Thor 2 which is currently slated for release in 2013.
According to the Irish Film and Television Network he wins the contract Thor 2 would be Kirk’s first step into big budget feature filmmaking but the Armagh born director has been no slouch to date. His recent screen credits include the hit HBO series Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire.
The director has also helmed the IFTA nominated Father & Son in 2010, and the Irish filmed Jonathan Rhys Meyers vehicle The Tudors.

Kirk is currently working on the BBC One Drama Series Great Expectations. Based on the Charles Dickens’ novel, it will be broadcast on Christmas to celebrate the bicentenary of Charles Dickens’ birth.
The original Thor was directed by another Irishman Kenneth Branagh and grossed $437 million worldwide.
