Leonardo di Caprio is oh-so close to signing a contract to appear in a new film that's being dubbed as the "Irish Braveheart." The project, called "Freedom Within the Heart," was written by Cork native Mark Mahon, whose people have been negotiating with di Caprio's agents in LA for the past few months, apparently quite successfully as Leo is expected to formally announce his involvement this week. The film is about the Irish High King Brian Boru and his battle against the Vikings. Mahon, whose film Strength and Honor won top awards at the Boston Film Festival last week, is keen to get going. "It is a fantastic story about an incredible time in Irish history and I am very excited about the whole project," he told the Sunday Independent. Filming is expected to start in Ireland at the start of 2008. Di Caprio's involvement in the project is already listed on the authoritative movie website imdb.com, so hopefully for Mahon, himself an up and coming talent in Hollywood, all systems will soon be go.
