America’s Most Wanted, the long running crime-fighting show that helped to catch hundreds of fugitives, has been canceled for a second time after low viewing figures suggest the public no longer watch it.
Over 25 years, John Walsh's criminal tracking series, which was picked up by Lifetime after the ax fell at Fox in 2011, has now been cancelled again.
According to the Daily Mail, the show picked up just 800,000 viewers when the last series aired five and a half months ago.
Meanwhile Lifetime has vowed to continue working with Walsh to establish a new project called John Walsh Investigates, which will reportedly look at his work with victims as well as tracking criminals. The channel will not pick up the remaining episodes of America's Most Wanted, however.
According to Deadline, the show has helped capture 1,202 fugitives since it first aired in 1988, 24 seasons ago. It has helped track 17 suspects on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List and rescue 61 children and missing persons.
In 2011, Walsh was presented with the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Governors Award for 'demonstrating the extraordinary use of television.’
