No sooner came the release of the second trailer for Batman flick The Dark Knight Rises, but controversy ensued concerning the charachter Bane's voice (played by Tom Hardy).

Some American audiences groused they couldn't understand the villain, played by the rising British actor. That got the attention of Warner Brothers.

Sources quoted in the press suggest the studio wants director Christopher Nolan to change the sound mix, but Nolan (a revered perfectionist) only wants to alter it slightly.

'Chris wants the audience to catch up and participate rather than push everything at them. He doesn't dumb things down,' one high-level executive told cosmicbooks.com. 'You've got to pedal faster to keep up.'

In an interview earlier this year Nolan said he doesn't actually mind a bit of ambiguity, as long as the storyline is clear: 'It was OK for a moviegoer not to understand what was said at times, as long as the overall idea was conveyed.'

The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled to open on July 20th 2012 starring Christian Bale as Batman, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, and Michael Cain as Alfred.
