'The Hunger Games' cleaned up at the box office last weekend, and is clearly poised to be the new must-see series now that Harry Potter is over, Twilight ends its run in November, and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo didn’t quite live up to expectations last year.
Stephenie Meyer, author of the Twilight books, clearly isn’t done yet, though. The film of her 2008 best-selling science fiction novel The Host will be released in March of next year, and to get the buzz going early a trailer was released that aired in all the movie houses showing The Hunger Games over the weekend – a nice bit of exposure for sure.
The film, which is still in production, stars Irish Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan as the lead character of Melanie, whose soul is taken over by an alien named Wanderer – but she still finds it in herself to fall in love with a human named Jared, played by Max Irons.
"It's kind of an alien love story," director Andrew Niccol told People magazine.
The Host was a New York Times bestseller for 26 weeks. Given Meyer’s huge fan base, it’s not a stretch to think that the film adaptation of her work will put many more millions into her bank account . . . and catapult the nearly 18-year-old Ronan into the orbit of other young stars like Kristen Stewart and Jennifer Lawrence.
