Mullingar’s most famous export, Niall Horan, celebrated his 19th birthday on Thursday. Millions of fans tweeted birthday greetings for the Irish member of hit boy band One Direction.

Gracious as always, the first thing the blond pop star did on his birthday was thank his fans.

“just woke up! im 19 wohoooo! thank you all soo much for the birthday wishes and stuff! love u [sic],” Horan tweeted.

The teenager has over six and half million followers on Twitter, making him the most popular Irish person on the social networking site.

He spent the evening of his birthday hosting a charity event in his hometown of Mullingar, for Irish Autism Action and a local homeless charity called Temporary Emergency Accommodation Mullingar (TEAM).

Horan commented in a statement, "I am delighted and honored to be in the fortunate position of being able to give back to my community. The plan for my birthday, which is on the 13th of September, is to raise as much money as possible foe IAA and TEAM and at the same time ensuring that both events are successful and fun for everyone involved."
