As One Direction and The Wanted take the US by storm, music critics are considering which British boy band will become the next biggest thing.
Both bands were in the U.S. recently promoting their respective hits. The Wanted appeared on Ellen and their Billboard Top 10 hit "Glad You Came" was performed on Glee. Similarly One Direction’s hit song “What Makes You Beautiful” also made Billboard's Top 10, and they appeared on Saturday Night Live with Sofia Vergara.
One Direction, comprised of Niall, Zayn, Malik, Liam, Harry, and Louis, recorded their debut album “Up All Night” with producers who were also behind famous pop acts like Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Beyonce, Fergie, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, & Jennifer Lopez. They have almost 5 million fans on Facebook and 3.2 million Twitter followers.
"The world has always loved a boy band...like any genre in music, certain groups go through peaks and dips, and as we've not really had a band break through on a global scale for a few years, the hunger and appetite is there again," Chris Buckley, lead editor of One Direction fan site OneDirection.net said.
The Wanted, made up of Tom, Siva, Jay, Nathan, and Max, describe themselves as one of Britain’s biggest, most brilliant pop bands.
Their official website states, “the band have already notched up four anthemic Top Five singles and two Number Ones, been viewed a staggering 30 million times on YouTube views and sold 400,000 copies of their eponymous debut album, which shook pop music to its core upon its release last October”.
They have almost 2 million Facebook fans and less than half a million Twitter followers.
