The Irish star is currently on a promotion tour for his movie "Gladiator II" and after star-studded premieres in Dublin and London, he's now in Los Angeles.

During the night, Paul stopped to chat with Variety who asked him "what was it like meeting the King [Charles]? Have you met him before... how wild was that?"

"Never met the King," Paul answered.

"How wild is it? It's definitely not something that I thought was in the bingo cards. I'm Irish so it's not on the list of priorities."

He went on to add: "But it's an amazing thing for Ridley, as I know how important that is for him, so to see his film celebrated in that context was pretty special."

The reporter then asked Paul "what do you say to the King?", with him replying: "You just kind of nod along. I found it hard to hear exactly what was [being said]... you're just kind of nodding along and smiling."

"Talk about a tone-deaf question! Sheesh," responded one person to Variety's video while many others loved Paul's gas "not on the list of priorities" line.

Another person said: "Paul Mescal really said b***h I wasn't listening to a word the king said my Irish ears cannot perceive such nonsense lmao."

Dozens of stars turned out for the Los Angeles premiere on Monday, with Paul leading the stars on the night in his chic all-black look of smart trousers, a blazer, and a waistcoat.

Elsewhere on the red carpet, actress Connie Nielsen also went for a classic black outfit, rocking a long dress with a semi-sheer shirt and structured corset top.

Denzel Washington coordinated with his co-stars as well in an all-black look and opted for comfort in a pair of trainers.

He was joined on the night by his wife Pauletta who wore a long leopard-print coat.
