Paul Mescal, the GAA player from Co Kildare turned Oscar nominee, has been flexing his fashion muscles again.

“I’m a fan of the short inseam,” Mescal, donning - you guessed it - short shorts, told GQ while at the Gucci Spring / Summer 2025 Menswear Show during Milan Fashion Week.

“From my eye, it’s to do with proportion - a shorter short with maybe a longer top.

“I’m a big advocate for men wearing shorter shorts.”

In another spot with GQ while at Milan Fashion Week, Mescal described his outfit as a “cute pair of shorts” with a blue oxford shirt, loafers, and white socks.

Mescal revealed that one of the first Gucci items he ever owned was a pair of “short shorts, much different in length to these” that was gifted to him by the famous fashion brand when “Normal People” was coming out.

As it happens, Mescal actually featured in Gucci's Horsebit 1953 Loafer Campaign last year where he donned a similar pair of short shorts.

The striped cotton shorts worn by Mescal in the campaign are available from Gucci for an eye-watering $520.

Mescal is a longtime advocate of short shorts and has won himself a sort of cult following on social media for his style (...or is it just his legs?)

Indeed, Mescal's short shorts in Milan this week reignited his fanbase's appreciation for the Irish actor turned sartorial sweetheart.

It all began back in May 2020 when Mescal was photographed sporting a pair of Maynooth GAA shorts in London.

While similar GAA shorts are sure to be spotted in any city, town, or village across Ireland, Mescal managed to style them with a certain flair that captured people's attention.

The picture went viral, and Mescal quipped on his now-deleted X account: "Arriving to training the Tuesday after kicking a point from corner back."

Such was the buzz around Mescal's GAA shorts that Gucci got on board, selling a lookalike pair later in 2020 while GQ featured the Irish actor in its pages donning his Kildare GAA shorts.
