The actor, 28, caused mayhem as fans bunched together to catch a glimpse of the star and he snapped selfies with a few lucky fans before heading into the cinema.

Paul portrays Lucius Verus, the son of Lucilla, in Ridley Scott's sequel to his 2000 blockbuster. The "Normal People" starred alongside some of the biggest names in Hollywood such as Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, and "Stranger Things'" Joseph Quinn.

Catching up with Miriam O'Callaghan on her RTÉ Radio 1 show at the weekend, Paul's mum, Dearbhla, described what it was like to see her son's big moment.

"Sometimes things are just so huge for you that you just have to soak it all in, and we really, really did. To hear your child's name being shouted and the fabulous music of 'The Gladiator' behind it was pretty awe-inspiring."

She told Miriam how "I got very emotional, I have to say and he did as well as. It was one of those things where you're sharing this big moment, kind of like a wedding, but there's loads of cameras!"

The actor shared an adorable moment as he reunited with his mum Derbhla on the red carpet at the premiere of his upcoming film, "Gladiator II".

Dearbhla, who recently shared the joyous news that her cancer is in remission, oozed elegance in a floor-length sequin dress, pairing the look with black drop earrings and a statement red lip.

Showing his gratitude to those who helped her pull through, Dearbhla said "Paul actually invited my doctor to the premiere, so that was so lovely, it was so lovely to see him out of context."

Keeping listeners up to date with her health the proud mum said "My body has accepted the treatment and is continuing to accept the treatment...I'm feeling very lucky and feeling very blessed."

"Gladiator II" is set to hit cinemas on Friday, November 15.
