JOB description - earn 5,000 for a couple of hours of work. Be nice and smile for the cameras as you help to open a new posh department store. Say a few polite words, then go spin a few tunes in your capacity as a celebrity deejay. Then you can vamoose.
Wouldn't you jump at such an offer of easy money? Most of us would, but not the Princess of Pout Peaches Geldof, daughter of Sir Bob, who behaved like a spoiled little brat at the opening last week of the House of Fraser department store in Dublin.
For some insane reason the powers that be at the store figured Peaches was worth her 5,000 appearance fee and booked her to pose for photos and deejay for a little bit during the grand opening celebrations. But, wouldn't you know it, the tabloid magnet, best known in 2008 for her strange quickie wedding and alleged brushes with drugs, showed up at the gig with a face like an angry dog ready to bite.
Peaches, all of 19 years old, and with a personal assistant to boot, felt "intimidated" by the paparazzi, according to her agent. After a few minutes she stormed out of the store and left.
"The paparazzi took advantage of the situation. Peaches felt intimidated. She arrived on time, in her own clothes, but was asked to wear House of Fraser clothes from the store," said one of Peaches' enablers.
"That's why the photocall was missed. There just appears to be a mix-up in communications about the event somewhere."
Oh, please. The only mix-up evident is the warped perspective this girl seems to have on life at such a young age. God forbid she'll ever have to get a real job.
A House of Fraser spokesperson said Peaches, now living in New York doing God knows what, was specially flown over for the party.
"The reason we did bring her over is because her dad is Bob Geldof and there is that Irish connection, and she is known as a very fashionable girl," said the store's promotions manager Lisa Moran.
"It is not just disappointing for us; it is very disappointing for the customers, too. She just didn't seem comfortable. She is a young girl and these things happen."
Well, if she's so uncomfortable with the paparazzi then they should just stop following her. Then she wouldn't have a public profile, and then she wouldn't be able to make thousands of dollars for just showing up at places. Wishful thinking, we know, but it's nice to dream.
