John Travolta and Uma Thurman are set to star in Oliver Stone's new movie "The Savages"
The new Oliver Stone movie ‘Savages’ is based on Don Winslow’s 13th and bestselling novel about two friends Chon (ex Navy SEAL) and Ben, played by up-and-coming actors Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson, who end up growing a high quality marijuana crop after Chon (given name John) manages to bring home the most potent marijuana seeds he could find from Afghanistan.
Unfortunately for them, the high strength home grown marijuana is so good that it attracts unwanted dealings from the Mexican cartel in Baja, who kidnap their friend, flatmate and fellow stoner Ophelia, called O for short played by Blake Lively (The Town).
Benicio Del Toro, who will play Lado the vicious cartel enforcer, tries to coerce Chon and Ben into growing their pot for the cartel, dragging them and O into murky operations. Salma Hayek will play the role of Mexican cartel pin-up queen Elena, Uma Thurman will play Ophelia’s mother who’s called Paqu for ‘Passive Aggressive Queen of the Universe’ and John Travolta who will play Dennis, a burnt out DEA agent, which will bring Travolta and Thurman together again on screen since ‘Be Cool’ (2005) and of course the hit ‘Pulp Fiction’ (1994).
Emile Hirsch is the most recent addition to the star-studded cast, who has been slightly off radar since his superb performance alongside Sean Penn in ‘Milk’ (2008).
‘Savages’ will be Oliver Stone’s most recent movie after Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, and will begin production in July 2011 for release in 2012.
