Russell Crowe was crowned by critics with the title of least convincing foreign accent in a film from 2014 for his portrayal of mobster Pearly Soames in “Winter’s Tale”. Crowe plays Soames, a baddie out to kill Colin Farrell’s character in the fantasy set in Manhattan, featuring a flying horse and slated by critics.

Critics hounded in on Crowe’s Irish accent in particular, however, and this year’s “Dick van Dyke Award for Calamitous Accent Work” was awarded to the actor as part of the BARFTA Awards - the British Academy of Rubbish Films and Terrible Acting - organized by UK film critics.
