Saoirse Ronan in "The Outrun."

The first trailer for Saoirse Ronan's latest project "The Outrun" is here - but still no word on when it will be arriving in US theaters.

In "The Outrun," Ronan stars as Rona, who, fresh out of rehab, returns to the Orkney Islands, a place both wild and beautiful right off the Scottish coast.

After more than a decade of living life on the edge in London, where she both found and lost love, Rona – now 30 – attempts to come to terms with her troubled past.

As she reconnects with the dramatic landscape where she grew up, memories of her traumatic childhood merge with more recent challenging events that have set her on the path to recovery.

Arcade Pictures, Ronan's production company with her partner Jack Lowden and Dominic Norris, announced last month that "The Outrun" will be in theaters in Ireland and the UK from September 27.

StudioCanal announced on May 30 that the film will be in theaters in Germany from November 7 - but still no word on a US release date.

"The Outrun," an adaptation of Amy Liptrot's best-selling novel of the same name, was directed by Nora Fingscheidt. Ronan, who was born in New York and raised in Co Carlow, pulled double duty on the film, both starring in it and executive producing.

When the project was announced back in 2022, Ronan said in a statement: “It was Amy’s voice that first drew me to 'The Outrun.' Her unusual way of seeing things in a way that perhaps you only can when you’ve been to the darkest place you can go within yourself.

"I have been waiting to play a part like this — the messiness, hopefulness, dreaminess, authenticity and humor we want to achieve — I’ve been scared of it, but with Nora I feel ready.”

Ronan, who has received four Oscar nominations throughout her career, is receiving strong reviews after "The Outrun" had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, followed by its European premiere at the Berlinale.
