Taylor Swift shook Ireland with her three Eras Tour concerts in Dublin last month - literally.
Swift's performance of "Love Story" emerged as the most energetic song that produced the most seismic activity, according to Eleanor Dunn, a seismologist at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS).
Meanwhile, activity from Swift's "Shake It Off" was unexpectedly picked up about 100km in Co Wexford.
Overall, the first night of Swift's three Eras Tour concerts in Dublin produced the most seismic activity, though the following two nights weren't far behind.
Dunn launched the #SwiftQuakeDublin campaign before Taylor Swift landed in Ireland for her three sold-out Eras Tour concerts.
Ahead of the trio of concerts, the DIAS said that thanks to local residents and businesses allowing the seismometers to be placed on their property in recent weeks, lead researcher Eleanor Dunn installed three different types of seismometers around the Aviva: Raspberry Shakes, ‘SmartSolos’ and ‘le-3Dlites’.
The 21 various seismometers were used to measure different strengths of ground vibrations.
Dunn said ahead of the concerts: “Through my research, I hope to make more people aware of seismicity, that it’s more than just an earthquake and that seismicity is being created every day in Ireland through activities like transport, construction, and concerts.
“Irish earthquakes are usually such a small magnitude that we don’t tend to feel them, but they do occur here.
"However, it is important to note the seismic activity generated at the concert will not lead to any kind of earthquake or danger to fans in or around the stadium!”
Dunn appealed to concert attendees to get involved by sharing their videos of the concert on social media with the hashtag #SwiftQuakeDublin.
“This will allow us to compare the seismic activity with moments in the concert and will hopefully inform us on what songs are fan favourites and which night had the most active fans,” Dunn explained.
She added: “I’m also hoping that this will bring science to a new audience and encourage young people to be curious about the world around them.”
@swift_quake Last week we began digging up Dublin gardens! We have been installing seismometers all over the city in preparation for #swiftquakedublin ! #swiftquake #erastour #taylorswift #dublintstheerastour @Taylor Nation @Taylor Swift ♬ original sound - Swift Quake Dublin
This week, Dunn has shared some other "very interesting" findings from her research.
She revealed in her social posts that it was the same song each of the three nights that produced the strongest seismic activity, "so clearly it was a Dublin Swiftie favorite."
She also shared some data collected during Swift’s performance of “Cruel Summer” on night one, Friday, June 28.
“As you can see, there was actually a peak when the audience started singing the bridge,” she said referring to her "Cruel Summer" data.
@swift_quake hey everyone! I hope you had an AMAZING time at the Aviva stadium!! Seeing all your amazing outfits and friendship bracelets has made me very excited for seeing Taylor in August! But in the mean time I have a small favour to ask... #swiftquakedublin #swiftquake #dublintstheerastour #taylorswift ♬ original sound - Swift Quake Dublin
She also shared some insight from Swift’s performance of “Champagne Problems” which showed that the applause “lasted for a long time and caused a big impact.”
@swift_quake over 4 minutes of applause for champagne problems! but will it be as popular as it was in Edinburgh? ? #swiftquakedublin check out https://stationview.raspberryshake.org/#/?lat=53.35135&lon=-6.24843&zoom=8.000 to view any live #swiftquakes! #dublintstheerastour #taylorswift @Taylor Nation ♬ original sound - Swift Quake Dublin
While the concerts have now concluded, Dunn is still appealing to attendees to send her videos from the concerts as she wasn't inside the packed-out stadium.
“I have all this ground vibration data collected from all over Dublin, and I do know the setlist and the timings of all the songs, as well as what Taylor was doing on stage, but I don’t actually know what the audience was doing during any of the performances and this is because I wasn’t actually in stadium, I was listening to the concerts outside the Aviva.
“This is why I really need videos taken from inside the stadium, sepcically maybe from a seated position which offer a wider view of what was happening and what the audience was doing as well as what was going on on stage."
You can share your Taylor Swift Eras Tour footage from Dublin's Aviva Stadium with Dunn on TikTok, X, and Instagram, or by using the hashtag #SwiftQuakeDublin.
