Actor Tom Hardy could soon be taking on the persona of famous musician Elton John for the upcoming biopic ‘Rocketman.’

HitFix reports that while Hardy has yet to be offered the role of Elton John, his name is being thrown around in consideration.

Initially, other English actor James McAvoy was said to have secured the role of Elton John, though  no deal was ever reached.

The role may be a bit of departure, as HitFix points out, for Hardy and his typically “machismo” roles. Just last summer he brought the villain of Bane to life in ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ and is set to appear in the upcoming ‘Mad Max: Fury Road.’

However, as writer Drew McWeeny points out on HitFix, Hardy could be looking to break out of a specific character, and portraying Elton John may be the perfect opportunity to do so.

‘Rocketman’ is described to be a “musical fantasy” that will merge John’s life with his music on screen.
