“Wednesday,” one of Netflix’s most popular series, is set to film its highly-anticipated second season in Ireland, according to a recent report in Deadline.

The Emmy-nominated young adult series “Wednesday” filmed its first season in Romania, but will be relocating to the Emerald Isle for season two.

While Deadline says details of the “Wednesday” filming in Ireland aren’t set in stone, “production is tentatively slated for late April.”

Deadline went on to note that the "Wednesday" film sets in Romania became a major attraction, giving the country "a TV tourism boost."

Indeed, Expedia reported this month that following the release of “Wednesday” on Netflix, the travel site saw a 150% increase in travel searches for Romania. Expedia predicts that this "set-jetting" travel trend won't slow down in 2024.

In "Wednesday," Romania's Cantacuzino Castle serves as the exterior of Nevermore Academy, "the mysterious boarding school where Wednesday Addams is reluctantly sent."

Ireland, of course, has no shortage of castles that could become the new Nevermore Academy.

“Wednesday,” an “Addams Family” offshoot starring Jenna Ortega in the titular role, debuted on streaming platform Netflix in November 2022.

According to Deadline, "Wednesday" Season 1 sits atop Netflix’s Top 10 list for most popular English-language series with 252 million views, almost double the views for its nearest competitor.

It also caught the eye of critics and scooped 12 Primetime Emmy nominations and two Golden Globe nominations.

A Netflix synopsis of “Wednesday” says: “The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy.

“Wednesday's attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”

The second season of “Wednesday” was confirmed by Netlifx earlier in 2023.

“We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky, spooky world of Nevermore,” co-showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough exclusively told Netflix blog Tudum in January 2023.

“We just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”
