She looks familiar, right? "American Idol" fans will surely know her - it's Carly Smithson, one of the remaining finalists, back in the day when her last name was Hennessy, she still lived in Ireland, and most refreshingly, she didn't have tats on her arms. Amazing what a search through our Irish photo agency will dig up! Dubliner Carly is pictured at the Irish Meteor Awards in 2003, claiming her gong for top Irish female singer. The annual Meteors are Ireland's equivalent of the Grammys, so her honor was no small deal. Our other pic shows Carly strutting her stuff in nicely fitting Wrangler denims in 2002. The caption from our photo agency - "singer Carly Hennessy, whose hugely successful debut single 'I'm Gonna Blow Your Mind,' . . ." Hugely successful debut? How the heck did she get on "Idol," then?!?! Aren't the contestants supposed to be struggling artists or something? No doubt Carly is ultra-talented, and she's obviously determined to become a star . . . but didn't she already have her crack at the fame game a few years back? These photos would seem to indicate that, right? Idol honchos have brushed off talk that she's too much of a professional to compete in the show. And we don't mean to rain on anybody's "Idol" parade . . . but . . . Oh, well. Just putting it out there. Go Carly!
