It’s finally happened. The true Irish staple, the Tayto sandwich, is soon to arrive on the Dublin restaurant scene, although for a limited time only.
As part of their “More Than Just Crisp” campaign, Tayto Ireland will open a pop-up store on Wicklow Street from Thursday, March 5 until Sunday, March 15 to treat Dubliners with a new sandwich option on their lunch hour. The menu offers The Cheese and Onion Classic, The Salt and Vinegar Sarnie, The Smokey Bacon Butty and, for the more adventurous crisp sandwich lover, a Prawn Cocktail Treat, all for $2.25 (€2).
Readers unacquainted with the simple joys of a crisp (potato chip) sandwich may be wondering what all the excitement is all about, but we guarantee they’re worth a try. When the world’s first ever crisp sandwich shop popped up in Belfast at the start of the year, it sold out in under two hours with lines around the block.
For the Tayto venture, half of the cost of each sandwich will head to Dublin’s Simon Community, a charity which provides homeless support services and emergency accommodation to help prevent homelessness. For such a worthy cause, how could you refuse? (We wonder if they’ll consider delivery to the States!)
The ad for the campaign is also one of Tayto’s best, as we see all the ways that a humble bag of Irish crisps can help us through our day-to-day lives. Have a look below and tell us what you think. Or more importantly, tell us which flavor of Tayto crisp sandwich crowns them all!
