It’s a crying shame but somehow no pubs in Ireland made it on the Worlds 50 Best Bars list of 2014. Although there are at least one bar listed, in New York, that is Irish run none of the winners are actually Irish pubs. How can that be.

The only two Irish bars we know of to make the list are:

Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog, New York

This Financial District historic bar is co-owned and managed by Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry, both Irish. The bar claims to embody “the conviviality of Old New York and the Irish-American tradition.” Also by all accounts it does a really mean cocktail!

In fact the Dead Rabbit came second on the list to Langham Hotel, in London, which won for the third year in a row. The competition results come from an independent poll, voted for anonymously by 334 industry professionals from 46 countries.
 
So why did some of Ireland’s gems not make the list.
