Kerrygold Irish butter has been named among “the best butters for both eating and baking” in a new round-up by Wirecutter, The New York Times’ product recommendation service.

Both Kerrygold's salted and unsalted butter won rave reviews in the new Wirecutter ranking.

Of Kerrygold Salted Butter, Wirecutter says: “Golden, grassy, and velvety: Kerrygold is the closest thing to the platonic ideal of butter in most supermarkets.”

Of the Irish brand’s Unsalted Butter, Wirecutter says: “The first time you use Kerrygold in one of your favorite baking recipes, you can’t help but notice its pronounced buttery flavor and aroma—you’ll be hooked.”

The Wirecutter team noted: "Kerrygold is the butter of choice for many on the Wirecutter kitchen team because it’s excellent to bake with, widely available, and an excellent deal if you buy it in bulk from Costco."

What is Kerrygold?

Kerrygold was launched for the first time, not in Ireland, but in the UK, in 1962. It was 11 years later in 1973 when Kerrygold went on sale in Ireland!

Kerrygold has gone on to become the most popular Irish food product in the world and, in 2018, became the first Irish food brand to exceed €1 billion in annual retail sales. The brand is now targeting €2 billion in annual retail sales by 2025.

Last year, Ornua, the owner of Kerrygold, unveiled a new €40 million development at Kerrygold Park, its flagship butter production facility in Mitchelstown, Co Cork and global home of Ireland’s most successful food export.

Ornua said the major investment will underpin Kerrygold’s plans to become Ireland’s first €2 billion food brand and support the rapidly growing global demand for Kerrygold, including in the US where it is the number two butter brand.

Today, Kerrygold is the number one butter brand in Ireland, the number one butter and cheddar brand in Germany, and the number two butter brand in the US.
