GOAL USA wants you to join their team for the Great Ethiopian Run Challenge 2024 - here's how you could be part of a trip of a lifetime.

The Great Ethiopian Run, dubbed by Runner’s World Magazine ‘the world’s best 10k,’ is Africa's largest road race with 45,000 people now taking part annually.

GOAL, a humanitarian organization working in 14 countries to provide life-saving relief and long-term development, is giving you the chance to join their team that will travel to Ethiopia for the run taking place on November 17, 2024.

The Challenge formally begins with a kick-off party on July 11th, 6 - 8 pm at IEX World Headquarters in New York City. Register for the FREE event here.

The event will be hosted by Ronan Ryan, IEX, who will be joined by Eamonn Coghlan, three-time Olympian and long-time GOAL ambassador. Irish Central is an official media partner for the event.

Fundraising & Logistics

GOAL’s Challenge seeks to assemble a team of 10-12 runners, who will reach out to their networks to raise critical funds. The target for each team member is $10,000.

GOAL will support you every step of the way, from helping you break down your fundraising target into manageable steps and milestones, to supporting you in holding fundraising events to help you reach your target.

Many companies also have a donation matching program, meaning they will match/double the amount you raise or that individuals donate.

GOAL will manage all the logistics for your visit to Ethiopia, from booking flights to securing visas, and all accommodation and travel while in-country. You can focus on running your best time and soaking up the culture and experience.

Not a runner? 10 kilometers is a distance anyone can run with 4-8 weeks of training. Even if you’ve never run before, or haven’t been active in a long time, GOAL will help you get moving again and ready for the world’s most unique 10k race.

Participants include runners, joggers, and walkers of all ages and backgrounds. The event is renowned for its celebratory, all-welcoming atmosphere with runners from all over the world, thousands of spectators lining the streets, and many millions more watching live on TV and online.

GOAL USA’s Board Chair Ronan Ryan, founder and COO of IEX, the innovative independent stock exchange, is an avid runner and the de facto captain of GOAL’s team. “Faced with all the poverty and suffering in the world, it’s natural to ask: ‘What can I possibly do?’” he said.

“Of course, the typical response is not to fly to Ethiopia, run a 10k, and meet with the people that our support will reach. But make no mistake: while there will be fun, excitement, and inspiration, this is not a tourist visit. The money we raise will be put to immediate and effective use by GOAL – you will do something to make a real and lasting change.”
