Slow Food Dublin has today released the full details of the 2019 festival, Slow in the City, which will take place on Saturday, November 2nd and Sunday, November 3rd, 2019 in Dublin city.
Slow Food Dublin’s mission is to promote the values of good, clean and fair food in Dublin city and further afield by growing membership, fostering community, educating the public and celebrating the pleasure of eating.
Part of Fáilte Ireland’s Taste The Island campaign, the festival aims to highlight local food and drink and its producers, the importance of urban growing and community.
The Experience will offer a line-up of ticketed local experiences, including a special walk with Fab Food Trails on Saturday and a Cocktail Masterclass at the Roe & Co Distillery on Friday.
On Sunday, NCAD in Dublin 8, will host a day of festivities around three areas: The Workshop, The Symposium, and The Market. Throughout the day, Slow in the City will highlight the flourishing Dublin food scene, collaborating with local producers, restaurants and chefs all of who live and breathe the Slow Food ethos every day in their work.
At the Soil Symposium, attendees can dive into an in-depth, informative day exploring talks and panel discussions on growing, composting, soil degradation and the importance of soil in an urban environment, with speakers including the growing community in Dublin, Aaron Jewel of Permascape, Bríd Carter from Neighbourfood Glasnevin, Sustainable Food Dublin, and Craig Benton of Stop Food Waste.
The Workshop will be an intimate space for learning and sharing, with a line-up of tutorials, demonstrations and hands-on workshops for children and adults. For kids, there is a butter-making class in the morning, then chef Erica Drum of Drums Kitchen will host a soda bread-making class, and Devin O’Sullivan from FEAST Ireland, the sustainable schools initiative, will be bringing young attendees through a tasting of Irish artisan foods.
Later in the day, Eoin Cluskey of Bread 41 and Niall O’Sullivan, head chef of Bang Restaurant will be creating a Zero Waste Workshop; Craig Benton from Stop Food Waste will be demonstrating the art of composting. There will also be a special “Tasting of Ireland's Historic Liquid; Aqua Vitae brought back to life” by Off the Cuffe; beer tasting with local brewery Dot Brew, and lots more.
Held in the yard of the National College of Art and Design, The Market will showcase some of the best of Dublin’s current food and drink producers and businesses including Clonanny Farm, The Bretzel Bakery, Maria Lucia Bakes and King of Kefir, and enjoy food from our favourite Dublin street food vendor – The Market Kitchen.
