A four-star lakeside hotel in Donegal, Harvey’s Point, has been named Ireland’s number one hotel by the travel site, TripAdvisor, for the fourth year in a row.
The Lough Eske hotel, just outside Donegal town, won the top spot in the 2016 Travelers’ Choice awards for hotels and was placed four in Ireland for Best Service. It was also ranked 13th in the Best Hotel in Europe category for the 2016 TripAdvisor Awards.
The TripAdvisor Awards are now in their 14th year. They aim to honor “the world’s most outstanding properties" across several categories, with results based on millions of reviews and opinions collected from users over the past 12 months.

James Kay, TripAdvisor spokesperson said, “What sets the winners apart is not just a high standard of service and accommodation, but the fact that they deliver this day in and day out.”
Also among the big winners in Ireland was Dingle's Castlewood House, which was named number one in Ireland in the Small Hotel, Best Service and Bargain categories. Kate’s Place B&B in Doolin, County Clare, was judged Ireland’s top B&B, while The Merrion Hotel in Dublin was named the country's top luxury hotel.

Harvey’s Point hotelier Deirdre McGlone was said to be “over the moon” upon learning the news, on the same day that she was named Donegal Person of the Year.
She told Hospitality News, “The entire team is absolutely delighted at this success.
“We are very grateful to all our guests who posted reviews on TripAdvisor and for their very positive comments. It was a lovely New Year gift.”
General manager Noel Cunningham revealed that Harvey’s Point has big plans for the next year. He said, “We have wonderful activity breaks and of course our summer cabaret planned.”
Helen Heaton, who owns and runs Dingle's Castlewood House with her husband Brian, said, “We are totally bowled over."
She said receiving awards such as these, and previous awards were a testament to her team.
Umaid Bhawan Palace Jodhpur in Jodhpur, India was named the world’s top hotel for 2016. The average nightly rate was $730.
