Couple Nick Drew and Lynn Clarke converted the former nursing home to a spacious family home, having undergone extensive renovations after the couple bought it in 2022.
Judges Hugh Wallace, Amanda Bone and Siobhan Lam were in awe of the glass windows in the property, which they say created fluidity, while the large open plan kitchen/living room was the star of the show as the previous nursing home blended seamlessly with the renovations.
"I need a couple of seconds to take this all in," Amanda said of the kitchen.
"I know why this is the homeowner’s favorite spot. Standing here you can see everything and everywhere. It’s just the scale and proportions of this room is fantastic."
There were still some issues surrounding the acoustics and bedroom of the home, however — with Hugh taking an issue with the acoustics of the home, saying "Two things don’t work: the pendant light and the acoustics. The echo in the room is quite challenging and they should have had a big rug."
Siobhán also took issue with the grey, full-height wardrobes, saying "It’s almost too imposing," but the three judges were still incredibly impressed by the home — which scored a 26 out of 30 to win the episode — Hugh giving the home an eight, while both Amanda and Siobhán gave it a nine.
"Home of the Year" airs every Tuesday at 8.30pm IST on RTÉ One and the RTÉ Payer.
